Car Accident Checklist

Remain Calm.
Check to make sure that you and your passengers are all right.
If another vehicle is involved, check to make sure those individuals are all right.
If anyone at the scene of the accident requires immediate medical attention, call an ambulance
Call the police.
If your vehicle is stopping traffic or is presenting a hazard (and can still be driven) move it to the side of the road.
Make a note of which police department and which ambulance service respond to the accident (you should get the name of the police office you speak with at the accident scene and a case number, if provided).
Exchange information with the other driver: Address, home phone, work phone, license plate number, Year/make/model of auto, vehicle Identification number, name of insurance company, effective date, policy number, and the phone number of the agent.
If there are witnesses, get their names, addresses, and phone numbers.
Don’t discuss the accident with anyone except the police.
If you are hurt or shaken up and need help getting home, call someone to pick you up.
Report the claim to your insurance company.
